Salesforce is continuing its AI hot streak — and this time, it’s tapping into the future of hiring. But before we get too excited: no, Salesforce didn’t exactly “acquire” Moonhub in the traditional sense.
While Moonhub announced with a bit of flourish that its entire team is joining Salesforce, a Salesforce spokesperson clarified to TechCrunch that only part of the team is coming on board. And technically, Moonhub is shutting down. So, not quite a full-blown acquisition — more like a strategic team pickup with some AI spice.
Here’s what’s actually happening: Moonhub, a Menlo Park-based startup known for building AI-powered tools to source and hire talent, is winding down operations. Some of its core team members — including founder Nancy Xu — are headed to Salesforce, which had previously backed the company as an investor and customer.
Moonhub was a rising player in AI recruiting tech, promising to make hiring feel less like a never-ending game of résumé roulette. Their platform could scan for top talent, reach out to candidates, and even support onboarding and payroll — basically a one-stop AI-powered HR department.
Xu, an ex-Meta engineer, launched Moonhub in 2022 and raised $14.4 million from investors like Khosla Ventures, Day One Ventures, and GV (formerly Google Ventures), plus Salesforce itself.
Now, Salesforce is folding Moonhub’s tech and talent into its ever-expanding AI empire, just weeks after dropping $8 billion on Informatica and scooping up automation startup Converge.ai. The message is clear: Salesforce is on a mission to AI-ify every corner of enterprise software, and hiring is no exception.
As AI becomes the secret weapon behind everything from sales to recruiting, it’s no surprise that big players like Salesforce are pulling in AI-native talent. Moonhub’s team may not be shipping product under their own banner anymore, but they’re not done building. They’re just doing it on a bigger stage now.
