Elon Musk’s Boring Company has paused construction on its Las Vegas airport tunnel after a worker suffered a “crushing injury” late Wednesday night, Fortune reports. Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has started an investigation.
The Clark County Fire Department said it received a call at 10:12 p.m. and sent an 18-person rescue team to the site. Crews used an on-site crane to lift the worker from the tunnel. Officials confirmed the worker is now in stable condition.
The company has already built tunnels linking the Las Vegas Convention Center to a few hotels and casinos. The system has carried more than 3 million rides through 3.5 miles of underground track. Long-term plans include connecting much of Las Vegas, including the airport.
Safety concerns remain. Dozens of workers have been injured during construction, and a former safety manager for the project has warned about risks on-site.
