WhatsApp is rolling out something new for all of us who’ve ever stared at the screen, typing and deleting the same sentence five times before hitting send. Meet “Writing Help” — the platform’s brand-new AI-powered feature designed to rephrase, proofread, and even switch up the tone of your messages.

Here’s the fun part: you can tell the AI to make your texts sound more professional, funny, or supportive—or simply ask it to clean up your grammar. And don’t worry, your privacy isn’t being tossed out the window. Meta is using its Private Processing technology, meaning neither WhatsApp nor Meta sees what you originally wrote or what the AI suggests. Everything stays between you and your message.
To give you a taste, WhatsApp shared a sample. The original text: “Please don’t leave dirty socks on the sofa.” AI then gave it a glow-up in different tones:
- Funny: “Please don’t make the sofa a sock graveyard.”
- Quirky: “Breaking news: Socks found chilling on the couch. Please move them.”
- Playful: “Hey, sock ninja, the laundry basket is that way!”
Basically, your boring reminders can now double as comedy sketches.
But let’s be real—this feature might split the crowd. Some people will love the extra help, especially when writing sensitive messages or trying to sound professional without overthinking. Others? They’ll roll their eyes and say, “No thanks, I want my chats to sound like me, not a robot.” After all, sending an AI-polished text to your boss is useful… sending one to your grandma? Maybe not so much.
Still, this is a clever move by WhatsApp. Instead of people bouncing out to tools like ChatGPT to rework a message, now the AI magic lives right inside the app. All you have to do is tap the little pencil icon when typing a message, and voilà — instant AI co-writer.
