Goodnotes, the popular notetaking app best known for its foothold in classrooms, is rolling out a slate of new tools aimed at professional users. The update introduces a collaborative whiteboard, document creation features, and an AI assistant designed to streamline work tasks.
The AI assistant can handle handwriting, typed notes, sketches, and even voice input. It’s built to summarize meetings, generate charts and diagrams, proofread content, and produce templates for documents or notes. Some of these features draw on technology from a South Korean startup Goodnotes acquired last year that specialized in meeting and video summaries.
Beyond AI, the app is adding a new whiteboard for real-time collaboration with text and visuals, as well as the ability to create richer documents that combine text, images, GIFs, and tables.
Goodnotes isn’t the only platform making this shift. Companies like Grammarly and Canva have also pushed deeper into document creation, giving their AI systems more context to assist users.
“We still have a large user base of students, but we want to expand our product to become useful for everyone, especially professionals,” founder Steven Chen said in a call with TechCrunch. “Text documents are popular in offices for people who type a lot, and a whiteboard is great for collaboration. Going forward, we want to be a well-rounded notetaking app for every scenario and every device.”
