Nigeria’s Champion Breweries has something to toast to — a massive turnaround in performance this year. The company just announced a Q2 pre-tax profit of ₦1.7 billion — that’s a jaw-dropping 268.95% jump compared to ₦465.4 million in the same period last year. For a company that reported a loss in H1 2024, this is a complete comeback story.
So what’s driving this growth? People are drinking more — or at least, buying more beer and malt. Q2 revenue hit ₦7.4 billion, up by 44.18% year-on-year. Total revenue for H1 2025 climbed to ₦15.9 billion, a 66.92% increase compared to the same time last year. Even with a rise in production costs (₦3.5 billion, up from ₦2.9 billion in Q2 2024), gross profit surged to ₦3.8 billion — a 72.90% improvement.
Operating expenses did climb: selling and distribution went up by 35.31% to ₦1.4 billion, and administrative costs ticked up by 2.80%. But even with those expenses, operating profit nearly tripled to ₦1.8 billion.
And the cherry on top? Zero FX losses this time around. Net profit after tax stood strong at ₦1.3 billion, almost 200% higher than Q2 2024.
As of June 2025:
- Total Assets: ₦25.9 billion (+21.57%)
- Retained Earnings: ₦5.6 billion (+45.13%)
Share price as of July 24, 2025: ₦11.20
Year-to-date growth: 12%
In short: Champion isn’t just brewing beer — they’re brewing serious business momentum. Whether you’re a market watcher, investor, or just someone who enjoys a cold bottle of Champion, this is a win worth noting.
Let’s watch if they can keep this energy bubbling into Q3.
