Dell’s Infrastructure Upgrades: A Comprehensive Refresh
The latest infrastructure advancements include updates to Dell PowerEdge servers, PowerStore storage, ObjectScale architecture, PowerScale storage nodes, and PowerProtect data protection systems.
The new PowerEdge servers, such as the R470, R570, R670, and R770 models, are powered by Intel Xeon 6 processors and offer improved scalability and energy efficiency. A standout feature is the PowerEdge R770, which helps businesses free up to 80% of rack space, boosts performance by 67%, and supports 50% more cores per processor. This consolidation effort aligns with the broader goal of reducing data centre footprints while maintaining high performance.
PowerStore now integrates Dell’s AI Operations platform (AIOps), previously known as CloudIQ, which provides analytics to streamline operations, monitor performance, and estimate the carbon impact of workloads.
The re-engineered ObjectScale architecture has been optimized for AI-intensive workloads. For example, the ObjectScale X560 model accelerates tasks like media ingestion and AI model training with an impressive 83% read throughput, while the XF960 model offers up to twice the throughput per node compared to competitors.
Dell’s hybrid cloud partnership with Wasabi adds a global namespace, cloud copy functionality, and built-in data governance, making it ideal for secure AI data lakes.
PowerScale now includes 122TB solid-state drives (SSDs) for incredibly high-speed access—up to 6PB in a single 2U rack. This capability significantly boosts GPU usage, crucial for AI training and inference.
PowerProtect has also been upgraded, with the new DD6410 offering up to 65x deduplication, faster scalability, and dramatically improved restore times. Additionally, PowerProtect Data Manager now includes AI-assisted anomaly detection and simplified VM backup.
